Anyone has any clever ideas how to keep the car floor mats in place?
A floor mat is that you end up ripping it as you slide in and do things like push your 150lbs back into your seat by pushing your feet against the floor. The best solution I have seen is the rubber thingamagigs on the GM cars that will release the carpet by bending before it rips the carpet. Then the bent thing springs back because it is rubber. I don't know how to retro fit one of those things into our cars but it would be the best solution.
Pick your feet up and don't shuffle. some cars have little hooks to hold a corner of the mat. that works to a certain extent. you could pin them or glue them. loose floor mats just move around.
If I recall without looking, the two clips hold pieces of Velcro (r) in place. What may have happened is your velcro pieces are stuck together and the whole piece came away from the floor. I mean, the mat has one part of the velcro and the floor piece has another. Sounds like they pulled out -- maybe check again?
I have read in other areas of evom of people screwing down the plastic clip that has the hook. I did this to my car but I put a spacer in between the clip and the floorboard. Otherwise the clip is high in the front since it's screwed down as close to flush with the floorboard as possible. I figured that could break the clip. I think it does help to keep that mat in place, and keeps the carpet from getting ripped up from making that plastic clip move around with the mat.
Mine is the front driver as well. i have almost ripped the whole half inch section that the hook is connected to out
I flipped mine upside down so that the rubber side faces upward. they seem to last longer"no worn out spots" and they stick alittle better in place. also the carpet part of floor mats dont get dirty.
