When you purchase a vehicle, you may not be entirely happy with the material that covers the seats in your vehicle. Or you may have had the car for a long time and want to give the interior a new image. Whatever the reason, there is no reason for you to stick with the car seat covers that you have. If you have a good imagination, you can easily make your own car seat covers.
Steps
1 Remove the material from your car seats with your seam ripper. Take special care during this process because you will use the same material as an outline for your new material. When you remove the material, check that the springs are still in place; if not, you will need to replace them.
2 Lay the craft paper on a flat surface, then lay your old material on top of it and trace around the shape. Be sure to leave enough room for the seam, and label the craft paper and the material to avoid confusion. After labeling each piece, lay them out on the car seats and pin the sides down to hold them in place.
3 Sew the material together. If you chose leather, you will need to sew new darts into the leather. You can do this by laying the new material out and making a mark of where the darts are supposed to be. Sew in the new ones. If you are using a material other than leather, sew the new material together with a sewing machine.
